Question about a GS 50 - Please help.

Dear Maarten

I have just bought a Kreidler GS 50 but I am unable to check the proper model and date – the bike is not delivered to me yet. I want to read more about the Kreidler , to participate in your club activity, to achieve some advices regarding the future restoration ( the sources of necessary parts, technical issues ) but I am reading in English only.

Could you help me and inform about the bike , maybe it is special from 82 , what do you think about this ? How rare is it?

Only the frame and front suspension is Van Veen.

What is the Frame number?

I think that the statement that the frame and front suspension are Van Veen and the rest not regards probably to the rear absorbers only due to the fact that the fuel tank, tires , wheels , engine , exhaust pipe and the carburetor looks as the same as these on the Van Veen 50 GS pictures in the Web. Obviously I could be wrong without any knowledge in this matter so please write a little bit more.

Ed is een echte kenner op Van Veen spul.
Ik zie alleen dat er erg veel aan is gelast. En de rembedienig zit anders.
Maar inderdaad mist hij de verstevigingsplaatjes ook in de hoeken.

Dear Maarten,
Forum is great but I am not feeling bad with news which convincing me. As I found in wise book the main point in the history of Naole works was the idea of the group of workers to introduce the production the series of cross bikes instead the bicycles they made. The first line consisted of bikes with different engines given by Minarelli, Sachs, Hiro and Rotax eventually, with whom Aprillia is cooperating until now. It happend after 1975 and maybe the bike with Kreidler engine is oryginal one produced then by the Aprillia itself . This could means that I have got a piece of Kreidler and Aprillia history important for both marks. Even if not and my bike is home made, I will try restore it as it is with Kreidler engine, it looks fantastic with this frame and engine and I still count for some hope from you and Forums members. So we also think you have been fooled with the Van Veen name.
You allready found out the frame is of a Aprilia RC 1979 ~ 1980, which originally has an Minarelli P4/P6 engine fitted.
Aprilia has also use Sachs engines earlier in the seventies, but those RC's are different.
Later on, these frames were also used by dutch tuner Henk Jager (HeJa Sachs), for use with Sachs engines.

As you said: it's possible to make something Kreidler-ish of it.
There are several projects on this forum which are very alike (SWM frame, Suzuki TSX frame etc.).
So keep posting here!

Aprilia 80RC uit 1982

Een 80 & 50-er Aprilia frame is hetzelfde, alleen de '80 uitvoering, die hier waarschijnlijk gebruikt is, verschilt nogal wat van de '82 uitvoering.
(The 80 & 50cc Aprilia frames are the same, the '80 frame, probably used here, differs in lots of ways from the '82).
De witte is dus (ook) van 1982, die heeft een grote knik in het frame zitten waar de radiateur voor zit.
(the white Apprilia is (also) a '82 model, which has a large bend in the downgoing front frame tube, for the radiator to be fitted.)
